Tories, Grits stand apart on child-care policy
Who cares!?! Why are they even talking about child care? This is an issue which falls completely outside of federal jurisdiction. Sure, it may be an important issue for many, but it is one that should fall exclusively within provincial jurisdiction, as stipulated by the Canadian Constitution under the heading "division of legislative powers".
So why aren't the Federal provincial parties talking about lowering federal taxes to allow the cash-strapped provinces to raise their taxes and spend the extra income as they see fit? Well for one, the average Canadian probably forgets sometimes that he lives in a federation. And talking child care and kissing babies wins votes regardless of who is doing the talking.
Nevertheless, child care is a stupid issue to be talking about at the federal level. Let the provinces deal with it.
